The Boston Celtics and Chicago Bulls are hung up on a potential trade for All-Star swingman Jimmy Butler, according to NBA.com’s David Aldridge. The snag in the deal stems not from the draft picks, but from Boston’s unwillingness to move starting forward Jae Crowder, Aldridge reports.

Magic’s takeover of the Lakers is happening two days before the trade deadline.

The Los Angeles Lakers have hired Hall of Famer and five-time NBA champion Magic Johnson as president of basketball operations, the team announced on Tuesday. Long-time general manager Mitch Kupchak was relieved of his duties, and Jim Buss will no longer serve as Lakers executive vice president.

The Indiana Pacers are gauging the trade market for All-Star forward Paul George, according to The Vertical’s Adrian Wojnarowski. George can opt out of the final year of his contract and become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2018.

The Sacramento Kings  agreed to trade DeMarcus Cousins to the New Orleans Pelicans, just two weeks after publicly proclaiming that the All-Star center was off the market.

Dillon Brooks did it again. The Oregon star hit a game-winning buzzer-beater to lift Oregon over Cal on Wednesday night. It’s his second buzzer-beater of the season.

DeMarcus Cousins has officially been traded to the New Orleans Pelicans. It still feels like a fever dream, but I woke up this morning and it was still true. Much of the ink spent analyzing this trade has focused on how Boogie fits with Anthony Davis.

The Utah Jazz have interest in acquiring their former star point guard, Deron Williams, in a deal with the Dallas Mavericks, according to ESPN’s Tim McMahon and Marc Stein. No trade is considered imminent.

Williams also cannot be traded without his approval because he’s playing under a one-year contract.
