THE San Miguel Beermen knotted their best-of-five Philippine Basketball Association Commissioner’s Cup semifinal series with the Star Hotshots at one game apiece after topping Game Two, 77-76, last night at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Wound up at the raw end in the series opener last Saturday, the Beermen avoided being thrust to the brink of exiting with a narrow victory in the second game that reduced the series to a best-of-three.

TNT KaTropa got their semifinal bid in the Philippine Basketball Association Commissioner’s Cup to a good start, defeating the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings, 100-94, in Game One of their best-of-five series last night at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Boosted by a strong start and the towering play of import Joshua Smith, the KaTropa maintained the cushion they got the rest of the contest to upend the top-seeded Kings for the early series lead.

THE TNT KaTropa moved one step away from returning to the finals after topping the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings anew in Game Two of their best-of-five PBA Commissioner’s Cup semifinal series, 107-103, last night at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Had the series edge entering the contest following their series-opening victory last Sunday, the KaTropa did their cause in the midseason Philippine Basketball Association tournament a huge favor by claiming another win that thrust them closer to another finals stint after more than a year of coming up short.

THE Star Hotshots became the latest team to book a semifinal seat in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Commissioner’s Cup after completing a sweep of erstwhile defending champions Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, 84-69, in their best-of-three quarterfinals series yesterday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Thrust themselves to a position where they had a chance to close out things after a big win in the series opener on Monday, the Hotshots took advantage of the opportunity and went for the clincher.
