THE Meralco Bolts notched their first win in the ongoing Philippine Basketball Association Governors’ Cup finals after taking Game Three of their best-of-seven affair with the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings, 94-81, last night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Facing the possibility of going down 0-3 in the series and having to do the near-Sisyphean task of sweeping the remaining games if they are to win the title, the Bolts gutted it out with the defending champions to hack out the win and infuse life to their championship hopes.

RECHARGED by a rousing Game 1 victory Barangay Ginebra Gin Kings target a 2-0 advantage in the 2017 Philippine Basketball Association Governors’ Cup when they meet the Meralco Bolts 6:30 p.m. at the Smart Araneta Coliseum tonight.

The Gin Kings swarmed all over Meralco import Allen Durham, relied on their size to prevent all inside incursions then watched the Bolts miss their outside shots to post a lopsided 102-87 victory at the start of the best-of-seven title playoff at the Quezon Convention Center last Friday.

THEY were challenge big time but in the end there was no stopping the Meralco Bolts from returning to the finals of the Philippine Basketball Association Governors’ Cup after defeating the Star Hotshots, 91-88, in overtime in Game Three last night to complete a sweep of their best-of-five semifinal series.

FOR the second year in a row, the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings and Meralco Bolts will dispute the championship for the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Governors’ Cup, beginning today in Game One of their best-of-seven finals series in Lucena City in Quezon Province.

Happening at the Quezon Convention Center at 7 p.m., the defending champions Kings and Bolts try to draw first flood and move a step closer to bagging the title for the season-ending PBA conference.

Meralco Bolts made big baskets down the stretch to stave off the Blackwater Elite, 104-96, in their 2017 PBA Governors’ Cup do-or-die quarterfinals match, at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum Thursday night.

Young guards Baser Amer and Garvo Lanete conspired to keep Meralco afloat early in the payoff period, before Allen Durham and Jared Dillinger took over in the final six minutes, hitting clutch shot after another to take out the Elite and set up semifinal date with the Star Hotshots.
