A bloodied Milan Melindo did not have an easy night in making his first defense of the IBF junior flyweight title.

He was able to secure a twelve round split decision win over former world champion Hekkie Budler of South Africa in the main event of "Pinoy Pride 42" at Waterfront Hotel and Casino in Cebu Saturday. Both fighters worked hard in each round, with Melindo giving it his all to edge out a lot of the close moments.

In a dramatic twist, the Mexican sensation, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (49-1-2) escapes with a Split Draw against Kazhakstan great Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (37-0-1) on Mexican Independence Day, September 16, 2017. Setting aside the talent and experience on both ends, Alvarez also had the advantages of fighting on the most important holiday of his home country, the great promise of money from the Mexican fanbase in the potential rematch, and judge Adelaide Byrd giving him the dubious scorecard of 118 to 110. The other two judges had more believable scorecards, albeit perhaps closer than the affair actually appeared. Dave Moretti scored the fight 115 to 113 for Golovkin, and Don Trella had it 114 to 114 even.

IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (37-0, 33 KOs) weighed in at a trim looking 160 pounds on Friday in front of a huge crowd of 9,000 boxing fans for his fight against Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (49-1-1, 34 KOs) on Saturday night on HBO pay-per-view at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Canelo also weighed in at 160 lbs. at the middleweight limit.

Saul Canelo Alvarez is interested in facing Floyd Mayweather Jr. in a rematch if he gets by middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin this Saturday night at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Canelo lost to Mayweather by a 12 round majority decision on September 14, 2013. The scores were 116-112, 117-111 and 114-114. Canelo was only 23 at the time he lost the fight to Mayweather.

Canelo has increased his trash talking by another level, as he’s now saying he would have knocked out all the same guys that Golovkin did during his career. Canelo seems to be trying to suggest that he’s the same knockout puncher that Golovkin is.

HBO’s Max Kellerman doubts that Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez (46-2, 38 KOs) will ever be the same fighter again after his 4th round knockout loss to WBC super flyweight champion Srisaket Sor Rungvisai (44-4-1, 40 KOs) last Saturday night in their rematch at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

Kellerman’s thoughts were echoed by HBO commentator Jim Lampley, who also doesn’t Gonzalez being able to come back and be the same fighter he was before.
