THE quarterfinals cast is complete.

Blackwater clinched the last berth in the quarterfinals after putting down GlobalPort, 118-107, in a critical game in the homestretch of the 2017 Philippine Basketball Association Governors’ Cup at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City yesterday.

A week after surprisingly being shipped, Allein Maliksi immediately made his presence felt, leading the Elite’s attack and scoring 22 points right away to go with five rebounds.

The rampaging Gin Kings have made odds makers take a second look after tagging the Beermen as the team to beat this third conference.

Ginebra leaned on a fourth-quarter blitz to humble the Blackwater Elite, 98-81, last Friday.

MERALCO regained share of first place as it emphatically dismantled Alaska, 106-78, to stay hot and further improve its stand in the 2016 Philippine Basketball Association Governors’ Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum last night.

Once again, Allen Durham was his usual dominant self, leading the Bolts with another solid double-double of 26 points and 18 rebounds on top of six assists and three blocks in a well-rounded showing.

Buck Henton continued his tear, producing game-highs of 36 points and 21 rebounds on top of four assists to spearhead the Aces.

THE HIGHLY improved NLEX Road Warriors eye solo leadership in the ongoing Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Governors’ Cup when they take the floor today against the TNT KaTropa in the 7 p.m. main game at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City.

Currently joint first place with the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings at 7-2, the Road Warriors, tailenders in the previous PBA conferences, shoot for the top spot and fortify their push for a top two finish in the season-ending tournament of the local pro league.

THE TNT KaTropa got back to the win column yesterday after defeating the Meralco Bolts, 113-107, in their Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Governors’ Cup encounter yesterday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Lost in their previous game, the KaTropa avoided dropping consecutive games by making sure to be on top of the Bolts from start to finish.

JUST when it seemed that it was having a little bit of consistency problems for the tournament, San Miguel Beer made a statement to send a message that it is still the team to beat in the ongoing 2017 Philippine Basketball Association Governors’ Cup.

Import problems and a brief losing streak made the grand slam-seeking Beermen seem human, but in the brightest lights, they shone to remind everyone why they have been dominating the league for the past three years.
