PSC takes Karatedo Goju-kai tilt to Lapu-Lapu

The Philippine Sports Commission, in partnership with the Karate Pilipinas Sports Federation, Inc. and the Department of Tourism Region 7, is bringing the 7th Karatedo Goju-kai Asia Pacific Championship in Lapu-Lapu City, from Sept. 27 to October 1.

The country’s first-ever hosting of the competition is taking place at the Hoops Dome, Lapu-Lapu City with over 700 athletes from 26 Asian countries, including teams from Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Korea and others.

“As part of the PSC’s campaign in spreading sports all over the country, we are honored to partner with City Mayor Jonard Chan and the local government of Lapu-Lapu City to host this international event in Cebu,” said PSC Commissioner Ramon Fernandez, following their meeting last Monday at the city’s capitol with Karate Pilipinas President Ricky Lim.

Mayor Chan also thanked the PSC and Karate Pilipinas saying, “this is a great development in promoting sports tourism not just in Cebu, but for the whole country. Lapu-Lapu City is ready to welcome and accommodate our asian countries all throughout the games.”

The three-day competition will also serve the test event for the karatedo national team for the upcoming 30th Southeast Asian Games. Technical seminar for coaches and trainers will also be conducted on the last day of the event.
