Ginawa ni Chess Grandmaster Rogelio "Joey" Antonio Jr. ang mga krusyal na basket sa paglubog ng 9 sa 11 puntos ng PTC (Philippine Technological Council) World Team upang dominahin ang pangkat ng Institute of Integrated Electrical Engineer (IIEE) sa exhibition match sa Koten Enterprise sa Pasay City noong nakaraang Linggo, Marso 24.

 

"I am so very happy nakapag-contribute tayo sa PTC. Bahagi din kasi ng training natin bilang chess player ang paglalaro ng basketball noon nat nagkaka edad na tayo need talaga ng Physical training. Lalaro kasi ako sa FIDE World Senior Chess Championship sa Europe sa taong ito," sabi ni Antonio.

Ang 62-anyos na si Antonio ay umaasa na sa wakas ay mapanalunan ang 2024 World Senior Chess Championship matapos itong malapit nang maisakatuparan pitong taon na ang nakararaan sa Acqui Terme, Italy kung saan kalaunan ay pumangalawa siya sa likod ng nanalong GM Julio Granda Zuniga ng Peru.

Sa on-the-board Chess, tinalo ni Michael Palma ng Institute of Electronic Engineers of the Philippines (IECEP) si International Master Jose Efren Bagamasbad ng Philippine Institute of Chemical Engineers (PIChE) sa pamamagitan ng tie break dahil pareho silang nakakuha ng 5 panalo at isang tabla sa bawat isa. iba pa para sa kabuuang iskor na 5.5. Si Jellie Ann Magro ng Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers (PSME) ay pumangatlo sa kabuuang 4.5 puntos at nanalo bilang top lady performer. Ang kanyang nakatatandang kapatid na si Judie Ann Magro ay umiskor ng 3.5 upang mag-ambag para sa kampeonato ng koponan ng IIEE kasama ang 4 na puntos bawat piraso mula kina Edmund Garma Daluddung at Raymond Sales Roces na nag-ukit sa PSME na may marka ng koponan na 11.5 – 11. Iba pang mga manlalaro sa nangungunang 10 na lahat ay magkakapareho ng iskor 4 na puntos sina Philippine Institute of Civil Engineer (PICE) Marx Zed Aguila, IECEP Arjoe Loanzon, IECEP Charles Sison, PSME Jonathan Junio at IIEE Chester Concordia. Nagtapos ang PSME at IECEP bilang 1st at 2nd runner up ayon sa pagkakasunod. Ang mga espesyal na parangal ay napupunta kay Lorenze Angelo Guerra bilang nangungunang mag-aaral at Elmer Claveria bilang nangungunang PWD.
Binigyang-diin din ng chess event ang pagkilala kay GM Eugene Torre at isang appreciation speech mula kay Jeff Bugayong, CEO ng Shimmer and Shield Car Coating, sa kontribusyong ginawa sa National at International arena ng 1st Asian Grandmaster at World Chess Hall of Fame.
