Tennis sensation Eala enters first $60,000 tournament in Switzerland

Filipino tennis sensation and Globe Ambassador continues her campaign in the women’s tour after gaining entry in the main draw of the Bellinzona tournament set to unfold in Switzerland on April 5-15, 2021. This will be Eala’s first ever $60,000 tournament in her young but promising career.

Eala’s impressive run in the professional circuit in the first three months of the year catapulted her to a personal best 736th in the Women’s Tennis Association’s (WT) world singles ranking released last week or an improvement of 27 places from her previous ranking of 763rd.  She is currently ranked one rung lower at 737th in this week’s ranking.

The 15-year-old Rafa Nadal Academy scholar and Globe Ambassador since 2013 Eala reached the round of 32 and 16 in her last two tournaments before losing her opening match in the Miami Open Qualifying round in Florida, USA.  Eala managed to take the opening set against world no. 104 Viktoria Kuzmova before yielding a tough 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 loss last Monday at the Hard Rock Stadium in Florida.

Despite the defeats, Eala earned enough points enabling her to jump 27 spots to improve her position to reach her career high. A deep run in the Swiss event will definitely boost further her quest for another title and a higher spot in the WTA Tour.

Eala has racked up a 12-5 win loss slate in the WTA while she holds a 17-9 overall record to include her matches in the International Tennis Federation for the year.

Eala earned her first-ever singles title since turning professional when she ruled the opening leg of the Rafa Nadal Academy ITF World Tour in Mallorca, Spain in January.  She also recorded three consecutive quarter final appearances in her next three tournaments.
