UFC welterweight Erick Silva is looking to overturn his loss vs. Yancy Medeiros to a no-contest.

Erick Silva’s quest for a rare two-fight UFC winning streak came to a crashing halt earlier this month at UFC 212, as Yancy Medeiros knocked him down and eventually got the TKO victory. The timing of the stoppage by referee Eduardo Herdy, who is no stranger to controversy, was considered premature even by Medeiros himself.

As his manager told MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani, Silva is planning to appeal the result and get it flipped to a no-contest.

“It’s the second time a referee made a bad call for an Erick Silva fight in Brazil,” Faria said. “We definitely need CABMMA (Comissão Atlética Brasileira de MMA) to take a deep look on this matter.”

“A rematch would be the best option,” Faria said. “Let’s bring UFC to Hawaii and finish this fight.”

That other “bad call” Faria is referring to would be Silva’s UFC 142 disqualification loss vs. Carlo Prater. Silva quickly dropped Prater early in round 1, then landed several punches on the ground, but Mario Yamasaki awarded the win to Prater, as he deemed that Silva threw illegal shots to the back of the head despite verbal warnings not to do so. At the time of this fight, the UFC acted as its own commission, so they upheld the result but still gave Silva his win bonus.

The 32-year-old Silva (19-8, 1 NC) was once thought to be a top prospect in the welterweight division, but his UFC record stands at 7-7, with three of those losses coming in his last four bouts.
