    MANILA -- Filipino-American athletes Natalie Uy and Alyana Nicolas will be shooting for a 1-2 finish in the women's pole vault competitions of the 30th Southeast Asian Games athletic competitions.

    Both Uy and Nicolas are now in the United States for the final phase of their preparations for the SEA Games slated from Nov. 30 to Dec. 11 at the 20,000-seat New Clark City athletics' stadium inside the sprawling 9,500-hectare NCC sports complex.

     

    SHARIFF KABUNSUAN COMPLEX, Cotabato City -- Officials of the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) launched here Tuesday the Mindanao Sports for Peace Caravan as part of the peace process to help resolve conflicts in some areas in Mindanao.

    “Sport is a great equalizer,” said PSC Commissioner Charles Raymond Maxey who went to this complex to attend the weekly Kapihan sa BARMM (Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao) press briefing.

    The Philippine Volcanoes got a show of support from Globe before leaving to compete in the biggest rugby event in Asia that will decide which team will join host Japan in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

    With Globe Chairman Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala leading the send-off ceremony, the Volcanoes will battle Guam, Hong Kong, India, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Thailand and the United Arab Emirates on November 23 and 24 in Incheon, South Korea for the remaining slot for Asia in the Rugby Sevens event of the Summer Games next year in Japan.

    The Philippine Volcanoes and the National Women’s Rugby Team will be shooting for medals in the 30th Southeast Asian Games Rugby 7s slated on Dec. 7 and 8 at the Clark, Angeles City Parade Grounds.

     Short-term home rental company Airbnb Inc has joined the ranks of leading Olympic sponsors in a deal that will run from the Games next year in Tokyo until 2028 and is designed to help cut the costs associated with hosting the event.

    Airbnb said the partnership with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) would cover five Olympics and Paralympics over the next nine years. Financial details of the partnership were not disclosed.

    With the aim of spreading peace in Mindanao, the Philippine Sports Commission and Philippine Sports Institute officially opened the Mindanao Sports for Peace Caravan at Cotabato City State Polytechnic University (CCSPU), Cotabato City yesterday.

    Judo could also be a source of gold medals when Team Philippines competes in the 30th Southeast Asian Games that opens on 30 November at the Philippine Arena in Bocaue, Bulacan.
