Basketball is gone and the world is falling apart, so here is a partial list of things that have helped me get through this off-season.

Around 4,000 people showed up at Vancouver City Hall to protest against a far-right rally on Saturday afternoon.

Tensions rose briefly as protesters from opposing sides began yelling at each other, but Vancouver police quickly escorted several far-right demonstrators away from the crowd. One protester was in handcuffs.

While Canadians observing the violent protests in Charlottesville, Va., may feel assured this country does not have hundreds of U.S. Civil War monuments, some statues and buildings divide Canadians along similar lines.

One is the statue in Halifax of Edward Cornwallis, a governor of Nova Scotia and a military officer credited by the British for founding the city in 1749. Later that year, he issued a bounty on the scalps of Mi'kmaq people.

A cool front cleared Metro Vancouver's hazy skies over the weekend, but offered little relief for those fighting wildfires across the Cariboo.

Several new evacuation orders and alerts were issued, including the expansion of an order from Alexis Creek to Riske Creek and a new evacuation order for Canim Lake on Saturday, and a new evacuation order for Hawkins Lake on Sunday afternoon.

B.C.'s Shambhala Music Festival is ending early after the grounds were placed under evacuation alert because of a nearby wildfire.

Organizers of the electronic music festival in B.C.'s Southern Interior announced Saturday afternoon that all acts planned for Sunday had been cancelled. They said there is no threat to attendees, but are recommending people leave Sunday morning.
