Residents of northern British Columbia are reacting to news Greyhound Canada wants to pull out of the region, leaving people in small communities with few options to travel affordably.

"It's Highway of Tears, man. It's dangerous," said Lyle Heldson, sitting outside the depot in Prince George.

"It's expensive on Greyhound, but it's worth it. You don't have to worry about going missing."

A group of three 11-year-old friends, who had just finished taking a summer lifeguarding course, are being praised for their quick thinking after pulling two struggling swimmers from the water in Surrey.

Georgia Springate, Kate Hunter and Lily Cox were at Crescent Beach earlier this month jumping off the pier and splashing around in the water when they noticed two women caught up in a current.

It's a new parent's worst nightmare: losing a child to sudden infant death syndrome, or SIDS.

That's what happened to a couple in Surrey, B.C., five years ago when their six month old son, Azaan Singh Gill, died in his sleep while taking an afternoon nap.

On Saturday, Azaan's parents, Tanya and Rob Gill, led a walk in his memory to raise awareness of SIDS and funds for treatment.

A United Nations panel says the construction of British Columbia's $8.8-billion Site C dam should be halted until there is a full review of how it would affect Indigenous land.

The recommendation is contained in a report by the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, which has completed its periodic review of how Canada complies with the world body's treaty to end racial discrimination.
