Canada's justice ministers are asking for clarity and support as they scramble to organize and police an entirely new marijuana industry in less than 10 months.

British Columbia Solicitor General Mike Farnworth said he hopes this week's meeting between federal Justice Minister Jody Wilson-Raybould and her provincial and territorial counterparts will provide more answers about how the Canadian government intends to make good on its plans to legalize pot by the summer of 2018.

It's been a warm, dry summer on B.C.'s Salt Spring Island. As they do every year, tourists pour onto the island from the ferries, eager to explore; sailboats and yachts bob in the Ganges harbour, sparkling in the sun. 

For residents, though, it's been less a summer of sun and fun, and more a summer of conflict and campaigning, of arguing with neighbours on Facebook about property hikes and the state of the island's roads, the contents of its fire hydrants, and the disposition of solid waste.

Residents of an East Vancouver apartment building were forced out of their homes Monday evening as a three-alarm fire tore through the structure.

The blaze at 326 Woodland Drive was first reported at 6 p.m., according to Deputy Fire Chief Brian Godlonton. Several residents were still inside by the time fire crews arrived, and had to be escorted out.

A B.C. woman and her brother, accused of masterminding the murder of her 25-year-old daughter, should be extradited to India to face justice, the Supreme Court of Canada has ruled.

India had requested Malkit Sidhu and Surjit Badesha, the mother and uncle, respectively, of Jaswinder (Jassi) Sidhu, be extradited to face trial for a charge of conspiracy to commit murder in the 2000 death.
