    Tropical Storm Jolina hits QC

Quezon City - The arrival of the monsoon rains and tropic storms has always been a yearly concern for Filipinos. Floods brought about by torrential rains make some area uninhabitable, forcing local government units to evacuate residents in certain areas.

In Quezon City, officials of Barangay Bagong Silangan started the evacuation of residents from low-lying areas to its covered court as Tropical Storm Jolina (Conson) dumped heavy rains over parts of Luzon.

Residents from Apolonio Samson were also brought to the Apolonio Samson Elementary School to shelter them from the storm.

THE Quezon City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (QC DRRMO), together with the QC Police District conducted a forced evacuation of residents from Roxas District to the General Roxas Elementary School.

Quezon City 4th District Councilor Hero Bautista said LGU officials are coordinating closely with the QC DRRMO to be able to swiftly assist their constituents. They have also started the distribution of relief goods and hygiene kits to evacuees. And while Tropical Storm Jolina is leaving the country, the state weather agency PAGASA is also monitoring the movement of Kiko (Chanthu), which could turn into a super typhoon in the coming days.

The city government also urged residents from  Brgy Imelda, Brgy Tatalon , Brgy Roxas, Brgy San Vicente, Old Capitol site and families located in low-lying areas to evacuate to safer grounds

In case of emergency, residents may contact the QC Helpline 122, the QCDRRMO at phone numbers 8927-5914 and 8928-4396, and the Emergency Operations Center at 0961-239-5097 (Smart), 0916-630-6686
