    Markis Kido, Indonesia badminton star, dies of heart attack aged 36

    Indonesia badminton legend and Olympic doubles gold medalist, Markis Kido died aged 36 of a heart attack, the Badminton World Federation confirmed in a social media post on Monday.

    Markis Kido, a celebrated doubles player, won the doubles gold at the 2008 Beijing Olympics with good friend Henra Setiawan. The pair had also won the World Championship title in men's doubles in 2007 in Kuala Lumpur. Kido and Setiawan formed a formidable pair and dominated the men's doubles circuit for a long while. They went on to win the Asian Games gold in 2010.

    The BWF and the Indonesian Badminton Association did not provide further details.

    Markis Kido played in the Premier Badminton League as recently as 2018. The Indonesia star had partnered with the likes of Jwala Gutta when he played for the Hyderabad franchise in 2016.

    The Indian badminton star took to social media on Monday and expressed shock over the death of the legendary Indonesian shutter.
