Eala barges into semifinals of the 2020 French Open Juniors

No. 2 seed and Globe Ambassador Alex Eala bucked an opening set loss to beat Czech Republic’s Linda Noskova, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 in their last 8 match-up to enter the semifinals of the girls’ junior tournament of the French Open at Roland Garros in Paris, France.

With the win, Eala became the first Filipino ever to reach the last four of a Grand Slam event in the last 35 years after Felix Barrientos last accomplished the feat in the 1985 juniors event of the Wimbedon.

As always, the 15-year-old Pinay tennis star had to dig deep in her arsenal to book the historic win.

Eala got off to a slow start against her world number 33 ranked opponent. Noskova appeared on her way to an upset win against Eala after taking the first set, 6-4. Eala, however, went on a 3-0 tear in the second set enroute to a 6-3 win to extend the match to a decider.

Just like in her previous matches, Eala played clutch in the third set by racking four straight games after Noskova took the opening frame. She eventually finished the match to sustain her amazing run in Roland Garros and remain on target for her first ever Grand Slam singles title.

Eala is a Rafa Nadal Academy scholar in Mallorca, Spain and has been a Globe Ambassador since 2013.
