THE Perlas Lady Spikers have tapped former UP standouts Kat Bersola and Nicole Tiamzon to reinforce their campaign in the Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference firing off Sunday at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan City.

Bersola and Tiamzon, who have completed their tour of duty with the Lady Maroons, will be reunited with their college coach Jerry Yee, the man at the helm of the squad bannered by the founders of Beach Volleyball Republic.

THE TOP-SEEDED Ateneo Lady Eagles made their way back to the finals of UAAP women’s volleyball yesterday following their four-sets win over the fourth-ranked Far Eastern University (FEU) Lady Tamaraws, in the process setting up a finals rematch with the defending champions De La Salle Lady Spikers.

Returned to action after a two-week break in University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) action, the Lady Eagles hung tough amid a late spirited fight from the Lady Tamaraws in their Final Four joust to go away with the 25-22, 25-10, 16-25 and 26-24 victory.

WIN or go home. That is plain and simple the mission order for the University of the Philippines (UP) Lady Maroons and Far Eastern University (FEU) Lady Tamaraws as they battle each other today in the penultimate play date of the elimination round of UAAP Season 79 women’s volleyball tournament.

Both sporting identical 7-6 records, UP and FEU need to come out victorious in their scheduled “do-or-die” match at 4 p.m. at the FilOil Flying V Centre lest they find themselves out of the Final Four picture and have their University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) season rendered over.

THE UNIVERSITY Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 79 women’s volleyball tournament (WVT) goes into high gear this weekend with the Final Four set to commence.

Started the season with eight competing teams, competition now has been sliced to four deserving squads who now channel their focus on moving to the championship round and get a shot at being crowned the year’s best in the UAAP.

THE Ateneo Lady Eagles are already Final Four-bound in the UAAP Season 79 women’s volleyball tournament with a twice-to-beat advantage to boot, but the mind-set for them is still to go all out and continue to work hard knowing that by doing so they are helping themselves for the tougher battles ahead.

Defeated the University of the East (UE) Lady Warriors in straight sets in their game last Sunday, the Lady Eagles tied the defending champions De La Salle Lady Spikers at the top of the standings with an 11-2 record and fortified their road to a top-two finish in the elimination round.

THE elimination round of the UAAP Season 79 women’s volleyball tournament comes to a close this weekend with a pair of matches still packing playoff implications.

To take place at the Smart Araneta Coliseum tomorrow, the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Golden Tigresses (8-5) battle the National University (NU) Lady Bulldogs (7-6) at 12 noon while the Ateneo Lady Eagles take on defending champions and rivals De La Salle Lady Spikers at 4 p.m.

THE University of Santo Tomas (UST) Golden Tigresses claimed a key victory over the University of the Philippines (UP) Lady Maroons in three sets, 25-20, 25-21 and 25-16, yesterday to give their Final Four push in UAAP Season 79 women’s volleyball further wind.

A battle of University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) teams needing a win to separate themselves from a packed group of squads making a run for the last two playoff spots, UST got the better of UP by being the more in-synch team when push came to shove.

THE late surge of the Far Eastern University (FEU) Lady Tamaraws in the UAAP Season 79 women’s volleyball tournament continued yesterday as they defeated the University of the Philippines (UP) Lady Maroons in straight sets in their do-or-die encounter and in the process entered the Final Four.

Practically covering all bases, the Morayta-based Lady Tamaraws proved too much to the Lady Maroons en route to the 25-16, 25-16 and 27-25 victory that clinched for them the semifinal spot while eliminating UP in the running.

CURRENTLY stuck in a three-way logjam for third place in the UAAP Season 79 women’s volleyball tournament, the National University Lady (NU) Bulldogs are eyeing an important victory over the Far Eastern University (FEU) Lady Tamaraws as the two teams clash tomorrow in the main game at 4 p.m. at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Sporting a 7-5 record, similar to that of the University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses and University of the Philippines (UP) Lady Maroons, NU is looking to break away from the group and give its Final Four push a boost.
