The Cavaliers’ successes primarily stem from luck: the luck of landing the No. 1 picks in 2003 and 2011, and the luck of being located 40 miles from the birthplace of the greatest player of his generation, who happened to enter the NBA in 2003. These strokes of immense fortune landed Cleveland the services of LeBron James for 11 seasons, Kyrie Irving for six, five total trips to the NBA Finals, and the 2016 NBA Championship.

The wait is over. Clint Capela will be in H-town for the foreseeable future.

Well, another piece of the offseason for the Houston Rockets just fell into place. Former TDS contributor Kelly Iko is reporting that the Rockets have finally come to a long-term agreement with restricted free agent center Clint Capela. He’s been signed to a five-year, $90 million deal.

Carmelo Anthony is planning to sign with the Houston Rockets upon clearing waivers in coming days, according to two people with knowledge of his plans.

Anthony is unlikely to become a free agent before next week, at the earliest, because his pending trade from the Oklahoma City Thunder to the Atlanta Hawks could take several days to be officially completed, according to the people, who insisted on anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the trade publicly.

The Houston Rockets still haven’t resolved their future with or without Clint Capela. Given that the Rockets have matching rights given Capela’s status as a restricted free agent, playing the long game is neither abnormal or particularly risky. There’s no way Houston can lose Capela to another NBA team this summer without making a conscious decision to let him go. (Capela could pull a Josh Childress and sign overseas, but that’d be incredibly shocking given how much NBA money is on the table.)
