MANILA, Philippines - Team Lakay’s Geje “Gravity” Eustaquio, one of the most highly-skilled striking specialists in the Philippines, plays in the main card of ONE Championship’s Age of Domination on December 2 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Eustaquio will test the striking ability of Finnish fighting sensation Toni “Dynamite” Tauru in a three-round bantamweight contest. Tauru, a grappling specialist, has 10 wins on his professional record, 7 of which came from impressive submission.
Eustaquio is not threatened, though. He thinks that Tauru has a weakness that he can exploit with his striking prowess.
“Toni likes to throw a lot of punches but I don’t think he is all that accurate. That’s one weakness that I can exploit a little bit... I like to strike, so I will try to test his ability in a striking battle,” says the Pinoy MMA artist who is coming from training camp that he describes as “one of the toughest and most satisfying yet.”
“My conditioning is on point. We are at ninety percent right now. By fight week we’ll be at a hundred percent and I’ll be ready,” says Eustaquio, who has a unique striking advantage that will come in handy in this bout.
For most of his ONE FC career, Eustaquio has been a flyweight, stealing the ONE Flyweight World Championship belt from then champion Adriano Moraes in 2014. When ONE FC revamped its weight management policies, Eustaquio moved up a division higher to 135-lbs. He says he misses the power he had as a flyweight and is thinking of going back.
“I went up to bantamweight to try to test the waters. I had a pretty good experience. But I think I am a lot stronger as a flyweight,” he says. Eustaquio will end 2016 at bantamweight but will drop back down to flyweight in 2017.
ONE FC: Age of Domination is headlined by Brandon “The Truth” Vera, defending his ONE Heavyweight World Championship belt against Japanese MMA legend Hideki Sekine.
