Since the idea of Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather was first floated as a possibility, there have been no shortage of fans, fighters, and pundits quick to throw shade at the competitiveness of the matchup. Mayweather, a multiple time world champion boxer, undefeated through 49 pro bouts, taking on a man in Conor McGregor who, for all his combat skills, has never boxed professionally in his life. 49-0 against 0-0 doesn’t exactly scream ‘close fight’.

Floyd Mayweather was in England to support his fighter, Gervonta Davis, but he was inevitably asked about fighting Conor McGregor.

After Gervonta Davis (18-0, 17 KOs) stopped Liam Walsh (21-1, 14 KOs) in England to successfully defend his IBF junior lightweight (130 lbs) title, BT Sport seized the opportunity to interview Davis’ promoter, Floyd Mayweather (49-0, 26 KOs), and of course he was asked about getting back into the ring to fight UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor. While Mayweather didn’t provide an answer to reporters when the topic of McGregor was brought up on Thursday, he did offer up something different on Saturday.

The lightweight champion will earn the pay-packet of his career - figures of $100 million have been reported in the media - if the super fight against arguably the greatest pound-for-pound boxer materialises.

Japan’s Saitama Super Arena will host a UFC Fight Night card this September.

After not receiving an event in 2016, Japan will receive a live UFC event at the Saitama Super Arena on Saturday, September 23rd. The UFC made the announcement official in a press release sent out earlier this week.

UFC president Dana White provides an update on the middleweight title picture, as well as Georges St-Pierre’s return to fighting.

The UFC’s middleweight title picture is as murky as it’s ever been. Plans were initially to have champion Michael Bisping face off against former welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre, ideally in July, but that looks like it’s been shelved. Dana White said that GSP was not going to be able to make his return to the Octagon until November, and that they weren’t going to wait for him.
