The 2019 offseason is now coming to a close, although NBA fans have already been treated to plenty of noteworthy moves. Superstars such as Paul George and Russell Westbrook split ways and were both traded to title-contending teams in the LA Clippers and Houston Rockets respectively as the duo moved on from OKC Thunder.

Anthony Davis was finally granted his wish of wanting to play for the LA Lakers whereas several other superstars tested gauged the free agency market for a new challenge. As a result, the likes of Kawhi Leonard, Kyrie Irving, and Kevin Durant will all be featuring for new teams in the coming season.

The 2019-20 campaign is bound to be one of the most exciting seasons in recent memory, and additional trades could still happen in the coming weeks. So, with plenty going on around the NBA, here are all the latest news and rumors you need to know for August 5th.

Patrick Patterson has agreed to a buyout with the Oklahoma City Thunder and plans to sign with the Los Angeles Clippers once he clears waivers, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN. Patterson signed a three-year deal worth more than $16 million with the Thunder in 2017 with the expectation that he would be the stretch-four on a team that desperately needed shooting, but his performance has declined significantly since leaving the Toronto Raptors. 

John Wall was drafted as the first overall pick by the Washington Wizards in the 2010 NBA Draft, and the point guard has since become a five-time All-Star. Wall is currently signed to a four-year, $170 million contract, and despite the franchise's recent troubles, Wall has reiterated his desire to spend his entire career in Washington:

"I’m not one of those guys that wants to play for multiple teams. I want to play for one organization. If it comes down to it, where you have to move around and it don't work, they're giving me the opportunity to come back, not this year but next year after."

Wall has played just 73 times over the past two seasons and is expected to miss the entire 19-20 campaign with a ruptured left Achilles tendon.

Going into the free agency moratorium period on June 30, the Los Angeles Lakers had just four players on their roster: Talen Horton-Tucker, LeBron James, Anthony Davis and Kyle Kuzma. Since then, they’ve added 13 players, including 14 players with guaranteed salaries.

While the roster hasn’t been finalized yet, Kuzma told MLive that he’s happy with the talent the Lakers have added in free agency so far during an interview at his second annual free basketball camp in his hometown of Flint, Michigan:

Draymond Green could have been the best NBA free agent in 2020.

Among players on expiring contracts, only Anthony Davis is more accomplished, and Davis is almost assuredly going to re-sign with the L.A. Lakers. The Warriors would have been favored to retain Green, but it has not been considered a sure thing by anyone who watches Golden State, especially not after the weird 2018-19 season that included a team suspension for Green and behavior from the elite defender that clearly exasperated coach Steve Kerr more than usual.

After struggling with injuries at the point guard position over the last several years, the Los Angeles Lakers invested in three point guards in free agency, including Rajon Rondo, Alex Caruso and Quinn Cook, who will be the highest-earning point guard on the roster next season (unless you count LeBron James).

For the seventh consecutive year, the Golden State Warriors will play a marquee NBA game on Christmas day.

According to an ESPN report, the Warriors will host the Houston Rockets on December 25, part of a five-game package on the holiday. It’s unclear what time the Warriors will play, or on what station (Christmas games are usually split between ESPN, ABC, and TNT).

Tim Duncan put a quiet end to a legendary career in 2016, but it appears he couldn’t stay away. His former franchise has announced that Duncan will be joining Gregg Popovich’s coaching staff as an assistant coach for this upcoming season.
