PATTAYA-THAILAND---Stephen Von Estavillo - 17 years old incoming 1st year college at Mapua University, Manila lead PH kids medal winners in the 1st Thailand Chess Festival 2019 - Rapid Age-Group Chess Championship held here at the Le Bali Resort and Spa in Pattaya, Thailand.

Estavillo defeated Arena Fide Master Kunawach Kunanantakul of Thailand in the final round to collect 5 points in six outings.

Thus, Estavillo landed at over-all third losing into a tie break points with fellow five pointers and eventual runner-up place Shin Jingjang of Thailand.

Chawit Asavasaetakul of Thailand took the title with 5.5 points.

According to PH head of the delegation Ms. Baby Lyn Kempiz of City Mayor’s Office of General Trias City, Cavite, Estavillo topped the Under 18 years old category to snare the gold medal.

Other notable gold medal winners include Noreen Sciecky Atienza (under 8 girls), Bonjoure Fille Suyamin (under 10 girls), Relghie Columna (Under 12 boys) and Geraldine Mae Camarines (Under 12 girls).

Yanie Ayesha Estavillo (under 8 girls), Jirah Floravie Cutiyog (under 10 girls) and Paolo Estavillo ( under 16 boys) came second in their respective division settling for the silver medals while Jireh Dan Jaime Cutiyog ( under 16 boys) contributed bronze medal.

Completing PH kids backed up by General Trias City, Cavite Mayor Antonio “Ony” Ferrer, Congressman Luis “Jon-jon” Ferrer, Del Rosario Christian Institute Foundation, Inc. chairman/president Arnel Beltran Del Rosario,National Chess Federation of the Philippines and the Philippine Sports Commission are John Martin Firmalino (4th place, under 12 boys), Josh Edmar Castro (4th place, under 14 boys) and Janmyl Dilan Tisado (4th place, under 14 boys).
