Olympian Pat McCormack will face Nicaraguan opposition on his eagerly anticipated professional debut later this month. The exceptional Great Britain amateur, who won a silver medal at the Tokyo Games last summer, is scheduled to meet Danny Mendoza (6-7, 4KO) over six rounds in Newcastle on Friday, March 25.

There is a huge buzz about the pro debut of McCormack after a stellar amateur career that saw him secure Commonwealth Games gold and silvers at the World Amateur Championships and European Championships, as well as his Olympic medal from Japan.

“We are all incredibly excited about what the future holds for Pat McCormack,” said Richard Schaefer, President of Probellum.

“He begins his professional journey, in front of his home fans in Newcastle, on March 25 and we all believe that Pat will go to the very top of the sport.

“His amateur pedigree is exceptional, and we know he has the capabilities to be even better in the pro ranks. Pat McCormack’s fights are going to be must-see events for every boxing fan, not just in the UK, but around the world.”

He will perform at the Probellum Throwdown event which will bring together some of the biggest names from the red-hot north east boxing scene, with local hero Lewis Ritson headlining a stacked card when he fights former world champion Dejan Zlaticanin.

British super-welterweight champion Troy Williamson is to defend his title against Mason Cartwright while world-ranked welterweight Thomas Patrick Ward squares off against Alexis Kabore.

Hot prospect Mark Dickinson has a third professional contest, facing Peter Kramer, Ben Rees makes his debut while local favourites Joe Laws, Joseph Maphosa and others also feature on an impressive card.
