Russell Westbrook edged out Stephen Curry for first-team honors after a record-breaking season. Meanwhile, Paul George missed out.
The NBA announced its All-NBA first team on Thursday, and it features the players you’d expect to stand atop the league’s totem pole.
Headlining the list gleaming in sustained dominance is LeBron James, who has earned first-team honors every season since 2008. It is his 10th time being named to the team after leading the Cleveland Cavaliers to a 51-31 record, good for second-best in the Eastern Conference. Alongside him are Russell Westbrook and James Harden, who each had historic regular seasons, as well as Kawhi Leonard and Anthony Davis.
The second team led by a pair of Warriors who are pushing the team to its third consecutive NBA Finals appearance. Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant lead the All-NBA second team along with Boston’s Isaiah Thomas, Milwaukee’s Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Jazz big man Rudy Gobert.
Finally, the third and final team sees some surprises. Instead of Kyrie Irving, it was Wizards guard John Wall who was voted into the All-NBA third team. He joins Raptors guard DeMar DeRozan, Warriors forward Draymond Green, Bulls forward Jimmy Butler, and Clippers center DeAndre Jordan.
Most notably left off the list are Pacers forward Paul George and Jazz forward Gordon Hayward, who each stand to lose a significant amount of money by failing to make either of the All-NBA teams. DeMarcus Cousins was also left off the honor roll after averaging better than 27 points and 11 rebounds last season.
