Far Eastern University edged Adamson, 2.5-1.5, and defending champion La Salle blasted National University, 3.5-.5, to continue to fight for the title after the 13th and penultimate round in the women’s section of the UAAP Season 82 Chess Tournament at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion Saturday.

The Lady Tams kept the lead with 37.5 points but their once-mighty lead was cut to just 1.5 points following the Lady Woodpushers’ huge win as the latter now has 36 points.

The 14th and final round will make or break their campaign with FEU clashing with University of Santo Tonas, currently at Np. 3 with 34 points, and La Salle tangling with Ateneo, which was at No. 4 with 32 points.

Interestingly, La Salle will be facing an Ateneo team that dealt it a shock 1.5-2.5 beating in the opening round a couple of months back.

The Lady Woodpushers, however, were a different team back then as they have bounced back from that loss by leapfrogging back to No. 2.

Ella Grace Moulic, Samantha Glo Revita, and Franchell Edds Javier delivered the victories on the second to fourth boards while Daphne Mae Dy, who took over top board duties after Antoinette Marie San Diego was rested, halved the point with Rizza Mae Tandog.

For FEU, it was the duo of Shania Mae Mendoza and Marife dela Torre who secured the wins on the first and third boards, respectively, while Bea Mendoza clinched the win by drawing with Jellie Ann Magro on second board.

Anne Krischa Tagayuna gave the Lady Falcons their only win after outlasting Rizalyn Jasmine Tejada on board four.

In other results, UST blanked University of the East, 4-0, and Ateneo split the point with University of the Philippines, 2-2.PR
