"The place of chess in the society is closely related to the attitude of young people towards our game."

NEW YORK CITY -- An avid reader of my blogs and other news websites from Manila in the Philippines once asked this writer, "Where is that mansion? What kind of mansion?" She was referring to the "mansion" mentioned in a series of chess articles I wrote early this year about a place on Britton Street in the Queens' Elmhurst neighborhood here.

It’s a picture of near annihilation. Humanity has been hunted almost to extinction by the Titans, man-eating giants. The remaining citizens have sequestered themselves within circular walled cities: the leaders in the inner circle, the commoners on the outer walls. “We’re cattle, cattle!” rages 10-year-old Eren Yeager, who wants people to rebel against their confinement. But when the Titans break through the walls, the young lad’s life takes a tragic turn: A Titan decides Eren’s mother will make the perfect afternoon snack and crushes her body between its giant jaws.

Under EO 26, smoking in public places such as schools, workplaces, sidewalks and public vehicles is prohibited. The sale of tobacco to minors is also banned.

The EO also requires establishments to put up “No Smoking” signs that measure at least 8 by 11 inches (20.3 by 27.9 cm), with a “No Smoking” symbol occupying at least 60 percent of the sign.

A gregarious public relations man named Ivan Luckin brought a rather radical idea to his colleagues at a City of London committee meeting in 1966: He was looking to sell the deteriorating London Bridge — for a whopping million pounds. One city official retorted, “Mr. Luckin, do you really believe someone would pay that sum for a heap of stones?”

The gold chains and orange baggy pants are your first indications that Eddie Huang is not giving your typical cooking lesson at OZY Fest. The host of “Huang’s World” on Vice and author of the memoir Fresh Off the Boat, now an ABC sitcom, is cooking up Hainan lobster. But it’s his fashion that inspires as much crowd banter as the food. Huang compliments an audience member on his outfit — “I fuck with the overalls” — before adding that his partner doesn’t let him wear overalls. When asked for a selfie, Huang hams it up with a kitchen knife.

It’s a beautiful start to Thursday in Morgantown, man. I got in a workout at the WVU practice facility this morning — got that out of the way. The university treats their former players well — it’s an open-door policy when I’m in town. The day is young. Now I get to hang with my daughter and some friends, then back to the gym before dinner.

America did not get its first female president in 2016, but that doesn’t mean women have stopped flexing their political muscle. High on that list of power politicos is U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, who, talking with Katie Couric on Saturday, leaned into the discussion of the possible impeachment of President Donald Trump. If he fires special counsel Robert Mueller, that would “reach a whole other level of ridiculousness that I think stops everything,” the New York Democrat said, speaking before a home state crowd at OZY Fest in Central Park.
