Malaysia arrests U.S. singer Maggie Lindemann after visa agent misinforms show organizer

Maggie Lindemann was midway performing at The Bee, in Kuala Lumpur, when police arrested her on June 21.

Close to two-weeks since the incident happened, the U.S. singer-songwriter, well received for her debut single Pretty Girl revealed her ordeal on Twitter.

In the July 4 post, Lindemann apoligized to her Southeast Asian fans not being able to perform following her Malaysian ordeal.

The 20-year-old was to perform in Singapore and Vietnam before the shows had to be cancelled after she was claimed to have been "confined for 5 days".

According to the Malaysian Immigration Department, Lindemann was detained during a raid.

“She was arrested for not having a professional visit pass at the time of the performance. She was then detained at Jalan Duta (Immigration KL office) for documentation purposes and was released with bail the next day,” Kuala Lumpur Immigration Department director Hamidi Adam was reported to have said to The Star.

He added that the show’s organiser were fined US$7,255 (RM30,000).

Meanwhile, The Bee has released a statement online on the incident as well.

The restaurant alleges that the visa permit agent had not been clear to the show's organizers on Lindemann's visa approval.

The agent has now been hauled to the courts to face the music.
