Gloc 9 goes animé

Don’t worry, he’s still the hard core rapper you know and love. The title of today’s column is merely based on his latest project, which was to write the theme song of the first Filipino anime series “Barangay 143,” set for a TV premiere in October.

Gloc 9 said the production team sought him out for the theme song, and he was more than happy to accept the task.

“We’re glad they were receptive to our suggestions,” shared the rapper as he promoted the upcoming GMA Network series at Barangay Sta. Ana in Taguig last weekend.

Busy as ever, he also composed a track for singer-actress Julie Anne San Jose, who voices the lead actress in Barangay 143.

“For myself, I’ve composed five new songs, which I plan to release in an album,” he added.

Prolific as ever, Gloc 9 also addressed rumors he was thinking of retiring.

“I don’t really want to retire but I was asking myself if singing and rapping was still what I wanted to do since age is catching up with me. I’m turning 44 this October so I thought maybe I should try something new,” he explained.

He said he still has the passion and love for music, a sentiment which he used as the theme of Julie Anne’s song, “Pagkatapos ng Lahat Mahal Pa Rin Kita.”

“Right now, I think I’ll be be honored if my legacy to the music industry will be to help young artists become good in their craft. Maybe help launch more rappers in the scene too,” he ended.
