Enormous Earthquake hit Philippines and Mexico

This earthquake started a vigorous aftershock sequence, including a magnitude 6.0 earthquake at 5:15pm killed eight people and trapped others on Monday in a collapsed building that housed a supermarket in a northern province, where an international airport terminal was closed due to damage, officials said.

Mayor Condralito dela Cruz of Porac town in Pampanga province, north of Manila, said rescuers pulled two survivors from the collapsed building, where other trapped people could be heard screaming for help as rescuers struggled to save them.

Witness saw a third survivor and the body of a woman being extricated by rescuers from the rubble late Monday. The pace of the rescue work picked up after four cranes arrived at the scene, where Red Cross volunteers, police and soldiers helped out.

The four-story building crashed down when the magnitude-6.1 earthquake shook Pampanga as well as several other provinces and the capital, Manila, on the main northern island of Luzon. The earthquake was caused by movement in a local fault at a depth of 8 miles near the northwestern town of Castillejos in Zambales province, said Renato Solidum, who heads the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.

In Manila, Emilio Aguinaldo College building leans on the adjacent building , Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), the safety officer of EAC has already been instructed to vacate and cease using the building due to the incident.

There were also reports that one level of a building under construction at the Bonifacio Global City in Taguig allegedly crushed.

The NDRRMC said there is no threat of tsunami, but aftershocks are expected.

In Mexico, Some buildings in Mexico City shook on Monday (April 22), sending people out onto the street after a 5.7 magnitude earthquake was registered by the national seismological service.

Witness felt a building moving slightly in Mexico City. The seismological service said on Twitter the quake magnitude given was a preliminary reading.
