Miss World Philippines names new general manager

In anticipation of the organization’s historic staging of the Mister World pageant in the country on August 4, Miss World Philippines, headed by its National Director Arnold Vegafria, also takes pride in introducing its new general manager, Arnold Mercado.

No stranger to the pageant scene, “Mama Ru,” as he is fondly called by pageant scribes, was one of the pillars of Aces and Queens, as its personality development trainer, and was also operations manager of Empire Studios.

Mercado said in a press conference: “It’s an honor and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be chosen as the new general manager of Miss World Philippines. This is my passion and I will surely give my utmost dedication to this job. You should expect a new branding for Miss World Philippines — one that is more competitive, prestigious and relevant.”

“You will see the winner more often. We will make sure they will be visible all throughout their reign. There will be some changes in the competition, but, I will not go into the details yet. We are also planning to get more competitive girls. ‘Yung tipong, you’ll never know whose going to win until the pageant night. Kasi in the past years, parang alam na natin kung sino ang mananalo. So I’ll make sure we’ll get more quality girls this year. I promise you that it will be a different Miss World Philippines from this year on,” he added.

According to Mercado, to cut the thought that he might be biased because he was part of Aces and Queens who scout and train talents for beauty pageants, he resigned from the management.

“I recently resigned and asked permission from Aces and Queens executives. Of course, they will still be my friends. We’ve been together for 18 years now. For sure our friendship will go on, this is a job naman for both camps,” he said.

“I am also clearing this. Definitely there will be no bias on my side. I worked with the multinational company Shell for 28 years. I’ve dealt with and handled various suppliers, contractors, and never in those years I was branded with any bias with any supplier or contractor,” he continued.

“So I would like to maintain that credibility. I think I will be more conscious pa nga na dapat walang ganun. I will make sure that from day one, I will have no biases for any training camps. Actually, one of my agenda as Miss World Philippines general manager is to meet all the handlers, mentors and training camps to assure them that I will be fair to everyone. I’m friends [with] all and they know that. I don’t think there will be any prejudice,” Mercado ended.
