Henry Tan Chi Sieng Sy Sr. was a Chinese-Filipino business magnate, investor, and philanthropist. He was involved in the industries of real estate, hospitality, banking, mining, education, and health care. He was responsible for the establishment of SM Malls, anchored by Shoemart Department Store and Supermarket.
Sy’s children, SM investment Corporation vice chairperson Teresita Sy Coson, SM Prime Holdings chairman Hans Sy, SM Prime director Herbert Sy, SM Investments board adviser Elizabeth Sy, SM Investments executive director Harley Sy, and SM Development Corporation chief executive officer Henry Sy Jr. welcomed the President and the government officials.
Sy, 94, died Saturday morning.
