Dwayne Johnson Reportedly Being Eyed for 'Fast and the Furious' Spinoff

Dwayne Johnson may have just joined the Fast and the Furious squad a few years ago, but he might have a lot more of the franchise in his future.

The 44-year-old actor is being eyed for a spinoff film alongside Jason Statham and Charlize Theron, Variety reports.

According to the outlet, the idea for a spinoff featuring Johnson has been thrown around since his character, Hobbs, entered the franchise in 2011's Fast Five, though plans are still in preliminary stages and a script has yet to be written.

The film would reportedly revolve around Hobbs and Statham's Deckard Shaw going after the newest villain to the franchise, Theron's Cipher, and be written by series architect, Chris Morgan.

The Rock made headlines last summer after posting a heated Instagram rant, in which he called his unnamed male Fate of the Furious co-stars "candy a**es." Rumors of a feud between Johnson and the series' star, Vin Disel, quickly erupted, though the two put the supposed beef behind them at the film's premiere earlier this month.

"Just like in life, you have different philosophies and people have different fundamental philosophies on how you do things," Johnson told ET on the red carpet. "And again, the most important thing is just the movie. So I'm happy that we're here in New York City, I'm happy the fans love it."

"We still love each other, that's my boy," Diesel added. "When I was making that difficult decision, should there be an 8 or not, I called [Johnson] and he said, 'Brother, I will be there shoulder to shoulder with you to make sure it's the best movie in history.' And he delivered."
