Six people are displaced in Surrey, after their houses caught fire Thursday morning.

The fire started just after 1 a.m. behind a house on 63A Avenue near 184 Street, and quickly spread to an adjacent home.

Two people in the house that initially caught fire escaped unharmed. Four residents in the adjacent house also made it out without injuries.

The first crews on scene called for extra help right away, after seeing flames coming from both houses.

"They were able to knock it down from the outside … then they went inside and stopped the fire," said Battalion Chief Wes Eaton with Surrey Fire.

Eaton said the house that initially caught fire had significant damage. The second home only sustained exterior damage from the flames.

Investigators will be looking into the cause of the fire.
