Hayley Atwell pens letter to Pinoy ComicCon fans

"Agent Carter" star Hayley Atwell has penned a letter to Filipino fans -- "in my own words" -- after ComicCon Asia announced that she had cancelled her appearance at the weekend event, citing "political unrest."

"Agent Carter" star Hayley Atwell has penned a letter to Filipino fans -- "in my own words" -- after ComicCon Asia announced that she had cancelled her appearance at the weekend event, citing "political unrest."

The British actress shared the letter on Instagram Thursday, with the caption: "My statement. My own words."

The letter read, unedited: "I'm so sorry to be missing the convention in Manila this weekend. I was looking forward to visiting your beautiful country and meeting you all. Unfortunately, the changes to my work schedule have made it impossible for me to travel so far at this time.

"You will hear more about these projects soon and I'm excited to share them when I can. I hope to see you at future conventions soon. Magkaroon ng isang magandang weekend."

Atwell made no mention of the political situation in the Philippines, in contrast to ComicCon Asia's earlier statement that the Peggy Carter actress cited "political unrest" as the reason "she is not comfortable making the trip."

Event producer Paulina Sophia Laping told the media that Atwell's decision, citing that reason, was received through e-mail after two weeks of smooth negotiations.
