James Bond has one final movie coming to theaters before Daniel Craig steps down from playing the character. Will his version of Bond retire? Will he die? Will he fake his own death and then retire? We’ll find out in No Time To Die, which is out April 3 in the U.K. and April 8 in America.
But before his final fate resolves, No Time To Die will explore all facets of Bond that led to this point. In a behind-the-scenes featurette posted by the official James Bond YouTube account, director Cary Joji Fukunaga says the movie will touch on Bond’s journey, his relationships, his trauma, and his changing world.
“He’s sort of a wounded animal, struggling with his role as a Double-O. The world’s changed,” Fukunaga explains. He addresses how he wants this particular movie to be extraordinary and fully explore Bond’s character.
“No Time to Die is the culmination of all that Bond has become, with all that he’s seen. The trauma, the loss,” says Fukunaga.
Like other Bond films, this one introduces a formidable villain — Safin, played by Mr. Robot’s Rami Malek. Returning to the cast are Ralph Fiennes as M, Naomie Harris as Moneypenny, Ben Whishaw as Q, Rory Kinnear as Bill Tanner, Jeffrey Wright as CIA officer Felix Leiter, and Lea Seydoux, who returns as her Spectre character, Dr. Madeleine Swann, Bond’s love interest and the daughter of the mysterious Mr. White character. Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas have written the Bond theme, aptly titled “No Time to Die.”
