Netflix’s ‘The Witcher’ and Henry Cavill look better than expected

I had questions about Netflix’s “The Witcher.” Mainly, it was an issue with casting. I didn’t buy “Superman” actor Henry Cavill as the title character, Geralt of Rivia.

He just didn’t look the part of being a gruff warrior who got the job done. Blame it on his past parts as Clark Kent and Napoleon Solo from “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.” Whatever the case, the trailer that Netflix debuted at Comic-Con 2019 in San Diego changed my mind. Cavill looks like he bulked up for the role and the magic of make up and special effects makes him look closer to the protagonist.

It also started the hype train for the series that was originally a Polish fantasy novel by Andrzej Sapkowski and gained mainstream popularity because of the video game series by CD Projekt Red.

The Netflix series is aimed at carrying the fantasy mantle for “Game of Thrones,” and by the looks of it, “The Witcher” could do just that. The series is scheduled for release later this year.
