Adam Sandler to film Halloween ‘horror comedy’ for Netflix on North Shore

It sounds like we might be seeing a lot of Adam Sandler this summer. The New Hampshire native is apparently preparing to start filming a Halloween-spirited movie for Netflix north of the city in the coming months.

Sandler is expected to produce and star in “Hubie Halloween,” the next flick in his ongoing deal with the streaming site. Production is supposedly starting in early July, and it seems the project is wasting no time becoming entrenched on our North Shore.

Adjacent residences in Danvers have just been approved as filming locations for the “horror comedy.” Earlier this week, the town’s Zoning Board of Appeals decided to issue two special permits that would allow Netflix to shoot scenes at homes on Ledgewood Drive. Cast and crew are slated to use these neighboring homes as their set for eight days, which are so far unspecified but are intended to fall sometime between July 8 and Aug. 30.

The Track can also confirm the movie will be looking for paid extras to be a part of production, holding an open casting call this weekend. Folks of all ages, who are also SAG and non-union, are encouraged to drop by the Marblehead Community Center anytime between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Saturday. Given the festive fall vibes that will be integral to the pic, people are encouraged to don their best Halloween costumes, although they aren’t required to do so. And aspiring extras who can’t make it in-person are asked to email [email protected] with a current photo of themselves and their contact info, as well as their height and weight measurements.

As far as the plot of the upcoming flick goes, it’s meant to take place in Salem and follow Hubie (Sandler), a kind-hearted but widely mocked member of the community. During the city’s iconic Halloween festivities, the eccentric main character finds himself in the middle of a real-life murder case and must ultimately save the holiday. Steven Brill — who’s worked with the Sandman on past projects like “Little Nicky” and “Mr. Deeds,” as well as recent Netflix ventures “The Do-Over” and “Sandy Wexler” — is reportedly attached as director. Meanwhile, Sandler and Tim Herlihy have penned the script, and Sandler’s company Happy Madison is producing alongside Netflix.
