Cannes: Warner Bros., MGM Take 'Bill & Ted 3' for International Markets (Exclusive)

The much-discussed 'Bill & Ted: Face the Music' — first officially announced in Cannes 2018 — is set to go into production in June.
The long-awaited reforming of Wyld Stallyns has drawn some major global interest. Bill & Ted: Face the Music, reuniting Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter as the iconic time-traveling metalheads for the first time in almost three decades, has been snapped up by Warner Bros. for the U.K., with MGM striking a multiterritory deal that includes Germany, Switzerland, Portugal, Latin America, Greece, South America, the Middle East, India and Pan Asia Pay Television.

Endeavor Content has been shopping the Orion Pictures film and has closed other deals with Madman in Australia, Paradise in Russia and Ukraine, and Pioneer in the Philippines.

Dean Parisot (Galaxy Quest) will direct, with production due to kick off in June.

Officially announced by The Hollywood Reporter in Cannes 2018 following years of discussions and false starts, Bill & Ted: Face the Music — written by the original creators Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon — catches up with Ted “Theodore” Logan and Bill S. Preston, Esq. as middle-aged best friends who are still yet to fulfill their rock 'n' roll destiny. But a new adventure beckons when a visitor from the future warns them that only their song can save life as we know it and bring harmony to the universe.

Scott Kroopf (Limitless) is producing with Alex Lebovici and Steve Ponce of Hammerstone Studios (Come Away; Roman J. Israel, Esq.). Steven Soderbergh is serving as an executive producer alongside John Ryan Jr., Scott Fischer and John Santilli.

Orion Pictures will release the film through the United Artists Releasing banner in theaters nationwide on Aug. 21, 2020.
