Binay, Roxas and Coseteng files candidacy

FORMER senator Manuel “Mar” Roxas 2nd was the first individual to file his certificate of candidacy (CoC) for senator on Tuesday, more than two years after he lost in the presidential elections to then Davao City mayor Rodrigo Duterte.

Running under the opposition Liberal Party (LP), Roxas said that he decided to try to regain his Senate seat because he wanted to help the country from its economic difficulties and make his life more meaningful in the service of the people.

“This campaign is not about 2016 but now,” Roxas said, adding that he has moved on as a private citizen but the call to public service has made him decide to run after consulting his family

Former Makati City mayor Jejomar Erwin “Junjun” Binay Jr. yesterday formally declared his intent to reclaim his post from his sister, incumbent Mayor Mar-Len Abigail “Abby” Binay.

Junjun, together with his runningmate District 1 Rep. Monsour del Rosario and 16 candidates for councilor, filed their certificates of candidacy (COCs) with the local Commission on Elections (Comelec) office.

His other sister, United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) president Sen. Nancy Binay, and his lawyer Sixto Brillantes Jr., a former Comelec chairman, joined him when he submitted his COC.

Actor and TV host Edu Manzano filed his COC for congressman of the lone district of San Juan City. The former Makati City vice mayor is expected to face reelectionist Representative Ronaldo Zamora.

San Juan City Vice Mayor Janella Ejercito Estrada filed her candidacy for mayor, accompanied by her father, former senator Jinggoy Estrada, reported ABS-CBN News. Her running mate is Councilor Leonardo Celles.

TV host Abigael Kate Coseteng filed her COC for Councilor of the 3rd district of Quezon City.
