President Rodrigo Duterte, who promised clean and honest midterm elections next year, is planning to set up checkpoints nationwide and limit the number of each candidate’s security escorts and firearms to just two.

“I will limit the firearms to only two. Uniformed security, two,” Duterte said during the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan leadership assembly in Pasay City Friday at the GSIS Financial Center.

“You must surrender your excess firearms. Do not go around in excess of about two. But we will assign every candidate a security,” Duterte said, adding he was prohibiting intimidation and vote-buying.

“It will be clean. The votes will be cast and will be counted correctly,” Duterte said.

Duterte also lauded PDP-Laban for being a “principled [political] party,” and encouraged its members to maintain the party’s integrity.

He reassured the PDP-Laban members of his full support as “we move forward in realizing our dream of building a stronger and more prosperous nation.”

“I trust that every member of PDP-Laban will be with me as we bring about real and lasting change for the sake of our people and our democratic institutions, and for our children, and their children to come,” he expressed.

Meanwhile, Duterte underscored that the public interest must be preserved and protected at all costs as he renewed his commitment to have a clean and honest 2019 elections.

“You must surrender your excess firearms. Do not go around in excess of about two [security detail],” he said.

The said such order also was intended for members of the PDP-Laban because this mandate did not exclude anyone.

The PDP-Laban Leadership Assembly was attended by 300 people composed of the party’s members and invited guests, according to a Malacañang press statement.
