Here’s everything we know about the 2019 Lion King remake — including similarities to and differences from the original film, who will be returning from the original 1994 film voice cast, and which award-winning actor will portray Simba’s villainous uncle Scar.
The Lion King remake: Everything we know so far
From the trailer, we can easily point out the visual similarities between the original 1994 film and the upcoming 2019 remake.
Familiar characters like Simba and Rafiki closely resemble their original imagery, and from what we can hear, Mufasa is still the wise king we love and are really not looking forward to saying goodbye to all over again.
We do know there will be at least one new character added to the remake that did not appear in the original film, though we don’t know how significant their addition will be to the larger plot of the film.
Additionally, we know that the movie isn’t technically strictly live action, but a live action/CGI hybrid called live-action animation. Motion capture technology records actors’ movements and facial expressions as they perform their lines, which are then used to more realistically animate each character.
