Avengers: Infinity War Has Already Made $1 Billion

The Marvel blockbuster crossed the $1 billion mark in a record 11 days.

Avengers: Infinity War continues to blow past already high expectations, setting all kinds of Hollywood records in the process. The latest is the climb to the worldwide $1 billion mark, a milestone a few other Marvel movies have achieved—but none of the others did it this quickly. After having the biggest global opening weekend ever, Marvel’s crossover culmination officially edged over $1 billion on Saturday, Marvel reports—the fastest any movie, Marvel or not, has passed that milestone.

By beating the $1 billion record, Marvel edged out its Disney sibling Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which made $1 billion in 12 days three years ago. In just its first week Infinity War has also already birthed an assortment of memes, as well as a fun website that reveals whether Thanos would have offed or spared you in his campaign to destroy half of all life in the universe. It’s Marvel Studios’ buzziest movie ever, and shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.

Infinity War is the sixth of Marvel’s films to hit $1 billion, and the 17th Disney production to cross that milestone. It’s already made more than the theatrical totals of superhero movies including Wonder Woman, Justice League (which it outgrossed in three days), and Guardians of the Galaxy. Thanos would be so flattered.

It’s also worth mentioning that Infinity War hasn’t even opened yet in China, the second-biggest movie market in the world. Its release there is scheduled for next Friday, May 11.
