An angel is on fire!

Ilonggo artist Angelkym Acusta is known for her Ilonggo Pop songs “Tuod nga Pagpalangga” and “Kung Bal-an Mo Lang,” with the latter having named Song of the Year at ABS-CBN’s Ilonggo Music Awards in 2010. Angel has taken the metro by storm, and is starting to explore other genres like RnB Pop and currently working on some acoustics.

The songwriter and recording artist is also a corporate trainer and travel and food vlogger. From Iloilo City, Angel has moved in to Manila to pursue her career.

“Now that I am based in the metro, things went rough, chaotic and I have been so busy. My life revolves around my work, music, vlogs, and travel,” says Angel, a member of FILSCAP and a certified YouTube Partner.

Angel describes herself as a people person, an extrovert, and an outgoing type.

“I like talking, socializing. The type of job that I have actually fits me. I am a corporate trainer and I do talk a lot and train my attendees about our products. I have trained various types of attendees, young and old, amateur and professionals, and etc. I like to be out. I like to be with people. No matter how busy I am with work, music, or vlogs, I find time to meet my friends and catch up. I like having coffee with them and just talk about life or anything that has been happening in our lives,” shares Angel.

Angel also travels a lot – as part of her job and for leisure, too. Once or twice every year, she explores other countries with friends. She also travels with her German-Filipino boyfriend, who is a sous-chef based in Europe.

“He has been all over the world and he is actually the man who influenced me to go out and experience the world and that life is too short to just stay in one place. Right now, I am happy, contented, and in love,” adds Angel.

With all her activities, job, and hobbies, Angel knows she has to stay fit and healthy. She keeps her body and skin hydrated by drinking two to three liters of water per day. She eats a balanced diet, with vegetables and fruits every day.

For her skin, she applies moisturizer before going to sleep and before applying makeup. She uses a lot of makeup and cosmetics because she also treats makeup as an art and a way of expressing her mood and personality.

On days that Angel feels stressed and burned out, her solution is more water, sleep, a relaxing massage, and a good rest.

Despite all these, Angel still has her low moments.

“The moment I am alone at home, or somewhere, negative things start to pop my head. I get bothered feeling lonely and empty. It may be cliché or unbelievable for some, but depression and anxiety hits me. It is real. I like being surrounded with my friends and loved ones. That is therapy to me,” she says.

Angel has learned many things in the experiences she had. She has learned that she cannot please everybody, so she strives to be patient and to just do everything with love and kindness.

“I am the type of person who plans ahead. There are so many things I want to do and accomplish at work and in my personal life. Sometimes, I get pissed off that things don’t come out the way I planned it. But patience is the key. Great things take time. It’s okay if things fail. It’s okay if things didn’t work out,” she shares.

Pleasing everybody is something that Angel stopped doing.

“No matter how good you are at what you do, people will always have something to say. Sometimes, they just have unnecessary opinions. Some are just pointless. And that’s okay. As long as you’re not stepping on someone and as long as you also respect others, go on with your thing,” is her advice.

Angel has discovered that we live in a cruel world. So she has learned to just smile. If people appreciate her , she speaks words of gratitude. If they don’t, she still smiles.

“Some are just going to hate you for no reasons or they hate you because you are too good, too annoying, too lousy, too irrelevant. You are going hear critics that might hurt your ego or simply make you feel bad. I learned that it’s okay,” she adds.

Right now, Angel hasn’t been active in live shows and performances and is laying low in music. But watch out for new songs that she will release soon. Meanwhile, tune in to YouTube for her vlogs.

Angel’s ultimate dream is to travel the world, build a family, put up her own coffee shop in the province and a food stall with a menu of her favorite Asian eats.

“I have this vision where I see myself going everywhere but I will always go back to my roots and where happiness and love is, Iloilo City. No place like home,” Angel ends. #
