Quebec's Court of Appeal has upheld a Quebec Superior Court ruling in two class-action lawsuits against tobacco companies awarding billions of dollars in damages to 100,000 people.

In the 422-page ruling, the court said that the Superior Court's decision was correct, except for some small technicalities.

For the first time, federal NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh has a seat in the House of Commons, after claiming victory in a high-stakes byelection in Burnaby South. 

The Vancouver-area race was largely seen as a test of Singh's leadership, as he faced off against Liberal candidate Richard T. Lee, a former B.C. MLA, and Conservative candidate Jay Shin, a lawyer and newcomer to politics.

As Metro Vancouver contends with a spreading measles outbreak, Health Canada is looking into a handful of B.C. homeopaths who offer an unproven and unapproved treatment they claim can prevent infectious diseases.

There are two more cases of confirmed measles in the Lower Mainland, according to the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority.

The health authority says the new cases are not related to the outbreak involving two French schools. The two new people with the infection contracted it while travelling.
