A woman has been rushed to hospital after being shot in East Vancouver. 

It happened just after 5 p.m. this evening near East 7th Avenue and St. Catherines Street.

When police arrived, they found a woman with gunshot wounds. She was taken to hospital in serious condition.

"This appears to be a targeted shooting. No arrests have been made," said media relations officer Jason Doucette in a statement.

James Kuhleitner had been out on his deck when it happened and ran over to help.

"There was a man holding, I think it was his wife, because I could hear him screaming that he didn't want to let her go," he said.

"A couple of us told him just to keep talking to her, to try to keep her aware of things."

Police have stayed in the area to conduct an investigation. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call 911, or if they wish to remain anonymous, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
