Mayo Landicho: Modern and Traditional

Manila - World-class tattoo artist Mayo Landicho has inked his name in Vancouver and the world. Mayo is an expert in traditional tribal tattooing and is sought around the world for his artistry and technique.

In his more than a decade of experience, Mayo has created original designs in the bodies of artists, celebrities, sports figures, teachers and even other celebrated local and international tattoo artists. He is a member of the elite and internationally renowned Dimasalang III group.

“My studio has finally become the vision that I carried and nurtured for over 20 years. It is a place where stories unfold and become an inspiration for new art, new tattoos, new memories,” said Mayo, who looks up to the last Kalinga Tattoo artist in the world, 97-year-old “batok” elder Whang-Od.

Mayo, while upholding tradition, is also into modern design. He won the top prize at the Westcoast Tattoo Show in 2012 and in the Westrock Tattoo Convention in 2013. The Vancouver Sun featured Landicho during the West Coast Tattoo and Culture Show in 2010. He has also graced the publications X-Files, Artista and Living Today Magazine, Westcoast Ink Magazine, 24/7 Newspaper, and MetroVan Independent News.

The highly regarded Phil-Canadian artist in Vancouver, Mayo participated in the Urban Tattoo Convention in New York in 2015 and earned a 1st and 2nd place award for the Best Tribal tattoos. He also received a special award from the Ink Travellers Tattoo Convention in Vancouver, Washington for performing the Traditional Hand Tapping and Hand Poking tattoo technique.

Born and raised in San Pablo, Laguna, Mayo is also a painter and a performing artist with a band. He remembers Arnel Pineda as his contemporary in the 80’s. Playing the guitar, Mayo performs in R’s bar in Vancouver and guests in special concerts. He is likewise a member of Sportsmanila Vancouver.
