Taking advantage of his familiarity of the court, Jonathan Grey gave Meralco the lift it badly needed on Wednesday.

Returning to the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan, the same floor where he made his lore in St. Benilde in the NCAA, the 24-year-old had himself going, unleashing 20 of his 24 points in the second half.

“Ang tagal kong naglaro dito, mga five years ako dito so siguro nakatulong talaga. Lahat sumu-shoot eh,” he said.

Unfortunately, his late game treys didn’t fall as the Bolts succumbed to Phoenix, 94-90.

“Sayang nga kasi libre ako eh,” he quipped.

But that can’t put down Grey’s confidence, as he and fellow rookie Ed Daquioag have been entrusted by coach Norman Black to let loose even in late-game situations. The 6-foot-2 scorer believes that with more time, Meralco can solve its woes and look forward to the new year with a positive attitude.

“Siguro kailangan pa namin ng more team chemistry pa para manalo kami. Ngayon, mabigat pa kasi nasa bottom four kami pero in-explain naman sa amin ni coach yun,” he said. “Think positive lang kami. Wag na naming isipin ang talo kasi lahat naman ng talo namin, dikit lang. Panalo na, natalo pa.”

Grey is wishing that the Bolts would have learned their lessons in this game, especially with league leader San Miguel on their schedule next Wednesday.

“Think positive lang. Sana next game, makabawi kami talaga,” he said.
