THE elimination round of the PBA Governors' Cup will resume on February 11 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

PBA commissioner Willie Marcial said teams will first be given 10 days to practice starting Feb.1.

But fans will still not be allowed to watch the games in the first couple of days of action.

In his initial assessment, the league may welcome fans on the second week of its resumption, depending on how the COVID situation will progress.

"Wala munang fans. Pag-aaralan muna natin yung sitwasyon kung pwede na tayong magluwag. At the earliest baka second week magpapasok na tayo ng fans," Marcial said.

The spike of COVID-19 infections after the holiday season and the escalation of NCR from Alert Level 2 to a stricter Alert Level 3 forced the PBA to temporarily postpone the games. The last double header of the Governors' Cup was played Dec.26 at the Big Dome.

In a brief meeting with MMDA chairman Benhur Abalos on Sunday, the league commissioner said Abalos was set to give his endorsement to various LGUs to allow PBA teams to hold practice amidst Alert Level 3.

But Abalos also told Marcial his endorsement may no longer be needed considering the IATF is about to downgrade the quarantine classification in NCR from Alert Level 3 to Alert Level 2 where close contact sports are already permitted.(PBA)
