Fresh off his TKO win over Vitor Belfort, Kelvin Gastelum will now meet Anderson Silva at UFC 212
Not even three days after his first-round TKO win over Vitor Belfort, Kelvin Gastelum already has another opponent lined up to continue his middleweight run, and it's the one he has been asking for - the former UFC middleweight champion, Anderson Silva. Ana Hissa, from Combate, broke out the news.
The UFC then made it official a few minutes later:
Ever since he moved up to middleweight, Gastelum (12-2) has knocked out Tim Kennedy and Vitor Belfort. Before that, he also picked up a unanimous decision win over former welterweight champion, Johny Hendricks. His last loss was a split decision defeat to Neil Magny in November 2015.
Anderson Silva (34-8, 1 NC) had been winless since a TKO win over Stephan Bonnar in October 2012, until he scored a decision win over Derek Brunson at UFC 208, in February. The victory marks Anderson's first win after losses to Chris Weidman, Daniel Cormier, Michael Bisping and a No Contest against Nick Diaz.
Kelvin Gastelum will meet Anderson Silva at UFC 212, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on June 3. The card will be headlined by a featherweight title fight between champion Jose Aldo and top contender, Max Holloway.
