While Conor McGregor has been urging an abundance of caution over travel and social distancing for the citizens of Ireland, he’s also inserted himself fully into the discourse involving Khabib Nurmagomedov’s potential withdrawal from the main event of UFC 249. After attempting to travel to the UAE to prepare for the PPV card’s potential change of venue, the lightweight champion ended up getting turned away at the border and flying on to Russia. There he promptly found himself caught up in the nation’s increasing travel bans, as Russia – along with much of the rest of the world – attempts to combat the spread of the coronavirus.

After stubbornly trying to keep its event schedule intact even through the coronavirus pandemic, the UFC has decided to indefinitely postpone three upcoming fight night events: The March 21 card previously slated for London, the event headlined by Francis Ngannou vs. Jairzinho Rozenstruik on March 28, and the card topped by Alistair Overeem vs. Walt Harris on April 11.

Outside the main event, UFC 248 was an action-packed card. No fight more so than the co-main strawweight title fight between champion Weili Zhang and challenger Joanna Jedrzejczyk. The two women threw almost 800 strikes combined over 5 rounds, with both landing at a significant clip. By the time the final bell rang, their faces were swollen and bruised. Jedrzejczyk especially looked like she could be on the shelf for a while.

Colby Covington fought the biggest fight of his career at UFC 245 when he challenged Kamaru Usman’s welterweight title. But apparently, he was battling other serious problems leading up to the event.

In a recent guesting on the It’s All About Who You Know podcast, “Chaos” revealed he had food poisoning caused by one of the meals prepared by the UFC staff. The incident, he says, almost forced him to pull out.

Amanda Nunes made short work of Cris Cyborg at UFC 232, KO’ing the feared Brazilian knockout artist to capture the featherweight title and become the first female two-division champ in UFC history.

Nunes made Cyborg look like an amateur on that night, but retired UFC veteran Josh Thomson believes people shouldn’t be so quick to write the former champ off.

The top of the UFC Rio Rancho billing just concluded with the promotion’s #6 ranked light heavyweight, Jan Blachowicz, knocking out the #5 ranked, Corey Anderson, cold! Anderson was the aggressor, but it only took one from Blachowicz to get the knockdown, and then one ground strike to get the finish. Was that enough to get the next title shot at the champ?
